George Oliver Dillard

    George Oliver Dillard, better known as Bud, was the son of G.
Madison and Mary E. Dillard. He was born April 4, 1874 near Pelham,
Spartanburg County.

    After finishing school he attended Presbyterian College at
Clinton, South Carolina. He studied for the ministry but, because of
ill health, he had to give up his training.

    On December 25, 1902 he was married to Miss Belle Golden, daughter
of Prof. A. M. and Lula Cunningham Golden. They had six children:
Ruth, Kate, Louise Irene, George Odes, Harold Andrew, and David Vinson.

    He was a very successful farmer and orchardist, also, a merchant.
For a number of years he operated the company store for the Pelham
Mill.

    George Oliver Dillard was a devout Christian taking an active part
in all phases of the church work.  He helped to organize the Fulton
Presbyterian Church in which he worked faithfully for years, as long
as his health permitted.

George Oliver Dillard died at the age of fifty-two.

    The children are:
    A. Ruth Dillard, born December 12, 1903, married May 13, 1925 to
       James C. Jannino.
    B. Kate Dillard, born May 29, 1905, married January 15, 1927 to
       Tolly Mitchell died _________________. Their children are:
       (1) Richard Dillard Mitchell, born July 14, 1933.
       (2) Robert Homer Mitchell, born February 20, 1940.
       (3) Kathleen Golden Mitchell, born December 18, 19117.

    After the death of Tol1y Mitchell, Kate married March 17, 1959
    Jack Locke, born January 3, 1900.

    C. Louise Irene Dillard, born July 1, 1907, married November 18,
       1928 Edward Earl Shannon. Their two daughters are:
       (1) Marlyn Earl Shannon, born February 3, 1932.
       (2) Elizabeth Mae Shannon, born February 26, 1935.
*   D. George Oliver (Odes) Dillard, born August 30, 1909 died,
       November 20, 1943. Married Helen Pettit. Their children are:
       (1) Dorothen Jean Dillard, born February 12, 1934.
       (2) George Otis Dillard, Jr., born September 5, 1939.
    E. Harold Andrew Dillard, born February 6, 1917, married May 2,
       1942 Marjorie Pettus, born October 7, 1916.
    F. David Venson Dillard, born September 17, 1919, married Ellen
       Leslie. Their only child is:
       (1) David Venson Dillard, Jr., born March 21, 1949.
